Specialised Eye Care for East Delhi: Myopia Control, Ortho-K, Scleral Lenses and Vision Therapy
East Delhi is
not short of eye clinics. Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar, Mayur Vihar and Patparganj
all have competent practices for routine examinations, spectacle prescriptions
and general consultation. For most people, most of the time, that is exactly
what is needed.
But a specific
set of problems does not resolve at a general clinic — and families usually
discover this only after a few visits. A child’s prescription that climbs every
single year despite new glasses. A cornea too irregular for any standard
contact lens to sit on. A reading difficulty that no amount of tutoring fixes.
Progressive lenses that have been remade twice and still cause dizziness.
These need a
practice built around specialised optometry — diagnostic equipment, fitting
expertise and therapy programmes that a general clinic is not set up to
provide. This guide explains which conditions fall into that category, and what
East Delhi families should expect from specialist care.

Myopia Control: The Reason
Most Families Travel
The most common
reason an East Delhi family seeks a specialist is a child whose number keeps
rising. Standard glasses correct the blur but do nothing about the underlying
cause — the eyeball is elongating, and it will keep elongating until growth
settles, typically in the late teens.
That matters
because the final adult prescription determines lifetime risk. High myopia
carries meaningfully raised odds of retinal detachment, glaucoma, early
cataract and myopic macular degeneration. Slowing progression during childhood
is the only window available to change that trajectory.
A dedicated myopia control clinic works
differently from a routine refraction. Axial length is measured and tracked
over time, progression rate is calculated rather than estimated, and a
treatment plan is selected from options with published evidence behind them.
Samyak Eye Care operates the first dedicated myopia clinic in North India.
Ortho-K: Lenses Worn Only
While Sleeping
Ortho-K
lenses — orthokeratology, sometimes called corneal refractive therapy — are
custom rigid lenses worn overnight. They gently reshape the corneal surface
during sleep. The child removes them in the morning and sees clearly through
the day with no glasses and no daytime lenses at all.
Two things make
Ortho-K attractive to parents:
●
Freedom during the day — particularly valuable for
swimming, cricket, dance and any activity where glasses are a nuisance or a
hazard
●
Evidence for slowing myopia progression, which ordinary
glasses do not offer
Fitting is not
a retail process. It requires corneal topography mapping, a trial lens
sequence, careful hygiene training and scheduled reviews — which is why Ortho-K
should only be fitted at a specialist practice. Read more about Ortho-K lens fitting.
Scleral Lenses and
Keratoconus
When the cornea
is irregular, a standard soft lens cannot sit stably on it, and vision stays
distorted no matter how the spectacle power is adjusted. This is the situation
in keratoconus, after corneal scarring or injury, following corneal transplant
or refractive surgery, and in severe dry eye.
Scleral
lenses solve it differently. They are large-diameter rigid lenses that
vault completely over the cornea without touching it, resting instead on the
white of the eye, with a reservoir of sterile fluid held underneath. That fluid
layer creates a smooth new optical surface and continuously bathes the cornea —
which is why patients often report both sharper vision and greater comfort than
they have had in years. The clinic is certified to fit Boston Sight scleral and
PROSE lenses; see scleral contact lens fitting.
Where
keratoconus is progressing, early detection and structured monitoring matter as
much as the lens itself — see keratoconus management.
Vision Therapy: When Clear
Sight Is Not the Problem
A child can
pass a standard vision test comfortably and still struggle to read. Seeing
clearly and using the two eyes together efficiently are separate skills, and
the second one is rarely tested at a routine appointment.
Consider a
vision therapy assessment where a child:
●
Loses place, skips lines or re-reads the same sentence
●
Reads well below expectation despite otherwise strong
ability
●
Complains of words moving, blurring or doubling on the
page
●
Tires quickly during homework, or avoids reading tasks
●
Has an eye that turns in or out, constantly or
intermittently
Vision therapy — the Eye Gym programme
— trains eye teaming, focusing and tracking through a structured, progressive
series of activities. It is used for lazy eye and squint in children,
and for convergence insufficiency, double vision and persistent screen-related
strain in adults. Dr. Jain has developed an indigenous home-based therapy kit
so progress continues between sessions — which also reduces how often an East
Delhi family needs to travel.
Progressive Lenses That
Actually Work
Progressive
lenses blend distance, intermediate and near power into a single lens with
no visible line. When they work, one pair handles driving, screens and reading.
When they do not, the usual complaints are swim at the edges, difficulty on
stairs, and a narrow band of usable focus.
Those failures
are almost always fitting failures rather than lens defects. The usable
corridor is narrow by optical necessity, so a few millimetres of error in the fitting
height puts the wearer in the wrong zone at the wrong moment. Getting it right
needs measurement in the actual chosen frame, adequate frame depth, correct
tilt and vertex distance, and a lens design matched to how the person actually
works.
The in-house optical department dispenses
progressive, occupational, bifocal, prismatic and computer lenses from
international brands, with measurements taken by clinical staff. Prismatic glasses,
crutch glasses and powered goggles are fitted where required, and children’s
frames are fitted to the face rather than sold off a rack.
For long
screen hours, Digital Vision Syndrome management
and dry eye management address the
strain and dryness that computer lenses alone will not fix.
Prosthetic Lenses and
Ocular Prosthesis
For an eye
that is scarred, disfigured or non-seeing, a custom prosthetic contact lens can be
hand-matched to the iris pattern and colour of the other eye. Where the eye has
been removed, an artificial eye or ocular prosthesis
is fitted to the socket. Both are craft work as much as clinical work, and few
practices offer them.
Travelling from East Delhi
Dr. Shalini
Jain’s Samyak Eye Care Clinic is at Gaur Gravity Complex, Opposite Chandra
Laxmi Hospital, Sector-4 Vaishali, Ghaziabad – 201010 — just across the
Delhi border and directly accessible from East Delhi on the Blue Line. Vaishali
is the terminal station on the Vaishali branch, so patients travelling from
Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar, Karkardooma, Anand Vihar, Vivek Vihar, Patparganj, Mayur
Vihar and Dilshad Garden have a straightforward Metro route with no interchange
for most.
To be clear
about the geography: the clinic is in Vaishali, Ghaziabad, not inside East
Delhi itself. Most East Delhi patients reach it in roughly 20 to 40 minutes depending
on the starting point. Because treatments such as Ortho-K, scleral lens fitting
and vision therapy involve a fitting phase followed by spaced reviews rather
than weekly visits, the travel is usually front-loaded into the first few
weeks.
The clinic is
open all days, 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, including Sundays, which makes it
practical to schedule around school and work. Call +91 9899 960 700 or book an appointment.
What to Bring to a First
Specialist Visit
●
All previous prescriptions, ideally going back several
years — the progression pattern is often the most useful single piece of
information
●
Current glasses and any contact lenses, including ones
that did not work out
●
Any earlier reports, corneal topography scans or
hospital letters
●
For a child, a note of school observations — board
copying difficulty, reading speed, teacher comments
●
Allow extra time; a full specialist assessment is
considerably longer than a routine eye test, and dilating drops may be used

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it worth travelling
from East Delhi for eye care?
For a routine
eye test, no — East Delhi has plenty of capable clinics. It becomes worthwhile
for specialised needs: myopia control, Ortho-K, scleral or prosthetic lens
fitting, vision therapy, or a progressive lens problem that has not been solved
locally. These require equipment and fitting expertise that general practices
typically do not hold.
How do I reach the clinic
from East Delhi by Metro?
Take the Blue
Line towards Vaishali and alight at Vaishali, the terminal station on that
branch. The clinic is in Sector-4 Vaishali at Gaur Gravity Complex, opposite
Chandra Laxmi Hospital. Most East Delhi locations are a 20 to 40 minute
journey.
How many visits does
Ortho-K need in the first few months?
Typically an
initial assessment and topography, a trial fitting, a review the morning after
the first night of wear, then reviews at roughly one week, one month and three
months. After that it settles into periodic checks. Most of the travel is
concentrated in the first month.
My child already wears
glasses. Is it too late for myopia control?
No. Myopia
control is about slowing what happens next, so it is relevant at any point
while the eyes are still growing. The earlier it starts the more total
progression can be prevented, but children who already have a significant
number still stand to benefit.
Can scleral lenses help
if I have been told nothing will work for my cornea?
Often, yes.
Scleral lenses are specifically designed for corneas that cannot support a
standard lens — keratoconus, scarring, post-transplant and post-surgical
irregularity. A fitting assessment will establish suitability; it cannot be
determined in advance from a prescription alone.
Is vision therapy the
same as eye exercises from the internet?
No. Vision
therapy is a diagnosed, individually prescribed and progressively adjusted
programme based on a binocular vision assessment. Generic online exercises are
not matched to a specific deficit and are not monitored, so they rarely produce
lasting change.
I have tried progressive
lenses twice and could not adapt. Is there any point trying again?
Usually yes,
provided the cause is identified first. Repeated failure normally traces to fitting
height, frame geometry or an unsuitable lens design rather than to an inability
to adapt. A fresh assessment establishes what went wrong before anything is
ordered.
Do you see adults, or
only children?
Both. The
paediatric and myopia work is the practice’s specialisation, but adults are
seen for comprehensive examinations, dry eye, digital eye strain, contact lens
fitting, keratoconus, vision therapy and optical dispensing.
